Independent Colleges and Universities of Missouri (ICUM) is a statewide association that proudly represents Missouri's independent sector. Our member institutions represent a diverse array of four-year and two-year independent colleges and universities that are located across Missouri, educating an equally diverse group of students.
Missouri is fortunate to have a strong presence of independent colleges and universities. The independent sector enrolls 36 percent of the students in the state. Independent institutions in Missouri award 47 percent of all degrees, including 67 percent of those at the post-baccalaureate level. This is a significant and essential contribution to the preparation of Missouri's workforce and the state's economic development.
Independent colleges and universities are also key drivers of economic stability and development for our localities and regions. The independent sector's direct economic impact exceeds $3 billion annually. Collectively, independent institutions employ some 28,470 workers in communities across Missouri.
ICUM speaks with one voice for our members, advocating for public policies that promote and protect independent institutions and their students.
